Rental providers and Agencies must complete a minimum standard check prior to every new tenancy and can face serious
consequences for failure to do so or for non-compliance, including:

Significant penalties, with fines exceeding $11,800 for individuals and up to $59,000 for companies
Infringement notices from Consumer Affairs Victoria or its Taskforce
Publication on the Consumer Affairs Victoria Non-Compliance Register for up to three years, listing the name, agency, and address
Tenant compensation orders via VCAT
Risk of voiding your insurances due to non-compliance with legal obligations
